Apple and cinnamon crumble: A hearty dessert made of British origin, is now enjoyed all over the world. And what’s not to like? Yummy stewed apples? Or the delicious smell of cinnamon in your house? Personally I think the person who thought of it was a food genius. What do you think?
Ingredients
- 500 grams apples (peeled and roughly chopped)
- 1/3 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup caster sugar
- 1.5 cups brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1+3/4th cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 2 sticks butter
- Vanilla ice cream to serve
Method
- Preheat the oven at 190 degrees Celsius 10 minutes before baking.
- Place the apples, raisins, sugar and cinnamon in a saucepan over a low heat. Cover and cook for about 15-30 minutes (or until he apples are cooked through) ,stirring occasionally.
- Remove the cover and stir well to break the apples completely.
- Cook for further 15-20 minutes over a very low heat until reduced and thickened. Allow to cool.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, oats and melted butter until well combined and crumbly.
- Lightly oil a cake tin. Spread half the flour mixture and pour over the apple mixture then sprinkle over the flour mixture and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool. Serve with vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
